TIM: Township school brings Bible to life

Work with pre-school children in a South African township has revitalised the faith of Training in Mission (TIM) participant Teresa Curran.

New Zealander Curran was shocked by the poverty she saw at the educare centre for pre-school children in Mountain View, Cape Town. She was also surprised by their joy.

"That kind of poverty doesn't exist in New Zealand. I knew it existed but actually looking at it and touching it and seeing it was really hard.

"But the children are so happy, so joyful and welcoming. They may have just one bag of crisps for the week, but they'll give you them."

Curran said she had learned a lot from the children. "When I get home I can open the Bible at any page and it appears relevant."

The Mountain View placement forms the second part of the CWM Training in Mission programme 2005. Youth on the TIM programme live, study and help on mission projects together in South Africa and India for 10 months
